Mendel Museum of Masaryk University
Mendel Museum has been a department of Masaryk University in Brno since 2007. The museum is located on the premises of an authentic Augustinian Abbey in Old Brno, the place of work of the abbot and scientist Gregor Johann Mendel. Its mission is to spread the scientific legacy of the Augustinian abbot G. J. Mendel. A presentation of Mendel's legacy takes place in the exhibition, which was ceremonially opened in 2009.
Besides the promotion of Mendel's legacy the museum is also a place to promote all scientific disciplines that students and prospective students at MU can encounter. Mendel museum is becoming an important point for the linking of science with practice and a meeting place for the general public within an academic environment by combining the practical requirements of a museum and the theoretical subject. One of the other activities of the museum is organizing lectures. Nobel Prize winners are amongst the speakers at the internationally known Mendel Lectures.
