International DNA Day

26 Apr 2021

25 April is International DNA Day. On this day in 1953, research describing the molecular structure of the DNA was published. A team of scientists – Crick, Watson, Wilkins, Franklin et al. – presented their findings in Nature and brought humanity’s understanding of genetics another great step forwards, just like Mendel did 90 years before them. The published works were accompanied by the first-ever 3D model of the molecular structure of the DNA. We have a rare copy of it in our museum – the only one of its kind in Central Europe (see the picture).
