The annual Researchers' Night will take place on 6 October, this time under the theme "Mystery". We look forward to seeing you from 6 PM, this year in the newly renovated Mendel Greenhouse! What secrets will we look at together during the evening?

  • Pea secrets and scientific mysteries
    • Follow in the footsteps of Mendel's research with us - do you know how scientists approach uncovering previously unsolved mysteries? Have you heard of any scientific mysteries? Find out how some of the most famous ones were uncovered here! And that includes Mendel's exploration of heredity. You probably know that it's related to peas - we're going to focus on that a little differently this time. What's actually hidden in there? Let's take a look at what a pea embryo looks like.
  • How does a tornado form?
    • "On October 13, 1870, we had the opportunity in Brno to observe a very rare phenomenon, the windstorm or tornado, and at the same time to see the damage that this vicious windstorm can cause." Mendel is known, among other things, as a meteorologist - and it was he who first described the tornado and the damage it can do. Do you know how a tornado actually forms? Under what conditions? Come and find out more about it! At the same time, you can try a simple experiment with a fake tornado.
  • The secrets of genetic modification
    • You've heard of GMOs - but do you know what genetic modifications are? Where can you encounter them and how do they differ from breeding? Come and test your knowledge - and learn something new about this topic!

We will be on-site for all interested visitors until 11 PM.

For the Researchers' Night, a bus line across Brno has been arranged again this year - and other faculties and departments of Masaryk University have prepared a colourful programme! Before and during the event, we recommend following the programme on the event's official website: the Researchers' Night / Masaryk University.
